Time To Think

Posted 14 Apr, 2010

I do my best thinking in the shower. This is fine, except that the shower is not the best place to jot things down. By the time I'm dressed, I've often forgotten whatever it was that had occurred to me. Clearly, I need to think of a new place to think.

If I am serious about this, I should start by developing some new and purposeful habits that demonstrate to all and sundry that I am concentrating hard and not merely daydreaming. Should I tap my chin, or drum my fingers on the desk, scratch my head or click a biro, or mutter significantly under my breath? I suspect it may not be that easy to develop unconscious habits.

My friends tell me, though, that when I'm engaged in a kakuro, I'm apt to do all these things. I'm told, too, that when I've cracked a puzzle, I have a tendency to smirk, to sit back, stretch my arms and sigh. Truly, I didn't know. I suppose it serves to show how absorbing these puzzles are.

For those of you who like to have something to think about, get stuck into a kakuro puzzle!
